Vacation Bible School

We have:

  • About 12 twin size mattresses you can throw on the floor to sleep on. One room has a bunk bed
that has a twin on top and a full size on the bottom. One room has a couch with a pull out queen
mattress.  You’ll need to bring your own sheets, pillows, towels, personals (shampoo, etc.)

  • A kitchen with a stove, microwave, 2 refrigerators, dishwasher, coffee pot. We have some pots
and pans, but if you know you need a 9x13 or a big pot for spaghetti, you better bring it. You bring
the coffee, filters, soaps, trash liners, food, etc.  We have some plates, cups, silverware, utensils
    but not a lot.

  • Some cleaning products, but we don’t keep track of what is on hand because the groups come in
& out so fast. So please notice what we expect and bring what you think you might need to clean
up properly before you head home. We have a vacuum, frequently the filters are full and it may
seem that it doesn’t work, but the filters are just clogged. If you need help, let us know. (843-200-1299)

  • You will need to bring your paper products like toilet paper, paper towels, plates, bowls, etc.

  • You will need to bring your food.  We have an outdoor grill to cook on too. You may need to
bring metal utensils to cook with.

  • There is a recreation center a couple blocks away to play basketball, baseball, etc.; or bring
along a volleyball net and play on the grounds. The ocean is just a couple blocks away too.
There are rental companies that will rent you bikes or golf carts. There is a marina at the end
of the island that will rent things too. We suggest you get on the internet and explore all the
wonderful possibilities that surround our beautiful church.

  • Our church service begins at 10:30, Sunday School starts at 9:30 am.  Wednesday evenings at
7 pm we have Bible studies.

  • We have a full library, a TV and one converter box, it does have a dvd player that you can
hook up. We have a keyboard to play, a small stereo too.  There’s a ping pong table, pool
table and foosball.  We also have a washer and dryer.  We take donations if you would like
to bring something and leave it.  J

  • We are a small church but have been blessed with facilities that we can share. We rely on
friends like you to equip and maintain the property.  Thank you and God bless you for your
    help and friendship.

Notes For Habitat and Youth Groups:

1.            Welcome to the Island!!  Providing housing is part of our ministry and we are glad you are here!

2.            Please remember that this is a church building and we are in a neighborhood.  This is not a school or
college campus. No liquor, no beer, no alcohol of any kind on premises please, it is not allowed on beach either.

3.            If you are here over a Sunday, feel free to “come as you are” to our church service at 10:30 am;
Sunday School is at 9:30 and we have a Wednesday night service in this building at 7 pm.

4.            There is easy access to the beach down 25th Avenue.  Please stay out of people’s yards. There is a
shower outside, at the bottom of the steps, please rinse off before coming inside so we can keep the
sand outside where it belongs.

5.            There are an additional 3 bathrooms to which you can gain access.  One is in the laundry room at the
bottom of the stairs, no sink.  The other room that has 2 bathrooms & sink is in the breezeway between
the church & this building and can be accessed with the key to your upstairs door. Please LOCK up
the breezeway bathroom door after using.

6.            There are (or were) green bath mats by each of the showers. Please use them to keep water contained.
After showers, please make sure shower curtains are INSIDE the shower to drip dry – open them to
prevent mildew. We have had trouble with leaks from the water drips after showers, so please be careful.

7.            We have wireless internet access for your convenience. Please ask us for the security code.

8.            Please keep your money and possessions safe.  We provide you with a key to your area.

9.            There are fire extinguishers in the hallway and kitchen.  There should be no smoking in the buildings or
alcohol on the grounds. (NO alcohol is permitted on the beach)

10.        If you have any maintenance issues, please call Pastor Ron (843) 864-3753 or Susie (843-200-1299)

11.        Air Conditioner controls are at both ends of the hallway, just have ONE person who controls it.  You may
need to bring an additional fan if you are hot natured.

12.        There is a snack & coke machine at the bottom of the steps. If there are problems with it, or it is out, call
Susie (200-1299)

13.        Please leave the building cleaner than when you found it.  There is a list here on the clipboard to follow.
There may be some cleaning products under the sinks or in the hall closet beside the mattress room.  If you
use any of the paper products please replace them before you leave.   Take the used rags, kitchen towels
& bath mats and place them in the laundry room before you leave, if you have time, put in washer for us.
LEAVE THE KEY on the door frame by the door before you leave.
Thank you for staying with us!  We hope you had fun!

We charge $7 per person, per day to stay here.

Activities and Attractions

The Isle of Palms, with its six miles of pristine white sand

beaches, is as much a place of beautiful serenity for residents and

visitors today as it was thousands of years ago for the Seewee

Indians and hundreds of years ago for the colonists who followed.

Being the birthplace of golf in America, Wild Dunes and the

Charleston area abound with some of the top-rated courses in the

nation. There are eco-tours, dinner cruises, and at the Wild Dunes Marina
you can rent jet skis, or go parasailing
. You can fish right in the resort
or go deepwater fishing. Bike rental is available in Wild Dunes
(and Mount Pleasant) and miles of Walking/Jogging/Biking paths
(and quaint streets) extend to reach every area
in and around the resort.
Even though the nearby shopping, dining and sight-seeing in Mount Pleasant,
Sullivan's Island and the City of Charleston are great, most people are content
to spend the majority of their time in The Wild Dunes Resort itself swimming in
or watching the ocean and playing or relaxing on the beach.

If you love history, you can spend your entire vacation steeped in

the history of Charleston and surrounding islands. Just go 5 minutes

from Wild Dunes Resort toward Sullivan’s Island and you will cross

Breach Inlet where the Hunley submarine was launched during the

Civil War. Sullivan’s Island also has Fort Moultrie (British attack

in 1776 repelled by colonists who then began a tradition of seacoast

defense) and from there go 5 minutes further to Patriots Point in

Mount Pleasant where you can tour the USS Yorktown and see the

Hunley. From Patriots Point it is only 5 more minutes to downtown

Charleston where history abounds.

The city of Charleston is a fascinating place to explore. Its

Revolutionary War and Civil War history will be forever entangled in

time and space with the city itself. Step back into the past and

experience Charleston by visiting the local historic plantations and

gardens. See original plantation houses, gardens, slave cabins,

smoke houses, and other remnants from plantation life. Beautiful

parks in the area provide for a variety of outdoor recreational

activities including hiking, picnicking, swimming, camping, boating,

and fishing. You can visit Boone Hall Plantation, Charleston

Waterfront Park, Charleston Tea Plantation, Charles Towne Landing,
Cypress Gardens, Drayton Hall, Brook Green Gardens, Magnolia Plantation
and Gardens, Middleton Place
and many others!

Charleston is proud of its natural, cultural, and military history

and has done a remarkable job of preserving it and interpreting it in

the various museums throughout the city. Charleston is also a major

center for the arts, with museums featuring American art from the

18th century through the present. Charleston’s museums and galleries

offer visitors a broad perspective of the history and culture that

have made Charleston what it is today. Points of interest include

The Charleston Museum (the oldest museum in the US), The Citadel

Museum, The Confederate Museum, Gibbes Museum of Art, Karpeles

Manuscript Museum (houses the largest private collection of

historically significant manuscripts in the world), Museum of the Common,
Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon (visited by George
Washington
and jail house for pirates), Shem Creek Maritime Museum and Library,
South Carolina Aquarium
and many others!

Charleston’s history is evident throughout the city. Historic

houses, churches, and forts throughout the area give visitors a

glimpse into the past. Well-preserved architecture and furnishings

help to document what life was like in Charleston’s early days.

Guided tours are available and admission is charged at some

attractions. Points of interest include the Aiken-Rhett House,
Dock Street Theatre, Edmondston-Alston House, First Baptist Church
(circa 1682, oldest Baptist Church in the South), Fort Sumter
(first shot of the Civil War was fired on this fort),
Joseph Manigualt House (c. 1843), Nathaniel Russell House
(c. 1809),
Old St.
Andrews Parish Church (c.1706 and still in use),
St. Michael's Episcopal Church (George Washington worshiped here in 1791),
St. Philip's Episcopal Church (c. 1670; light was put in steeple to
help guide ships to port)
and many others!

Guided tours are a good way to see the city and learn its glorious

history at the same time. The large variety of tours allows you to

experience Charleston, SC on foot, by bus, carriage, trolley,

limousine, boat, or even hot air balloon. General tours are

available, as are more specialized adventures. Specialty tours focus

on such topics as the Civil War, the Colonial Period, Black History,

Ghosts of Charleston, Historic Architecture, Churches & Graveyards,

and Art & Literature. Looking for something different? Try a Tea

Party Stroll, a Ghost Walk, or a Murders and Mysteries tour. There

are Charleston web sites that can give you a list of all the

carriage tours, walking tours and boat tours.

But Charleston is not just history. Excellent shopping, famous

dining experiences and a vibrant night life make this multi-college

town a pleasure to experience. Charleston is renowned for its high

cultural events including the annual Spoleto USA festival with an

array of artistic performances for everyone. Opera, dance, jazz,

theater, orchestral, chamber contemporary music, literary and visual

arts and more fill the theaters and halls of the area during this

special two weeks every year. There are exciting events happening

year-round in Charleston. Some of the most popular include the

January Low Country Oyster Festival, February Southeastern Wildlife

Exposition, March and April Festival of Houses and Gardens, May and

June Spoleto Festival USA, September and October Candlelight Tours

of Houses and Gardens and MOJA (African-American and Caribbean Art

and Culture) Festival, November Miss SC Pageant, Wild Dunes Resort

IOP Tennis Invitational, Art and Oysters Festival and December

Christmas in Charleston Festival and Christmas Parade of Boats!

Anytime of year is a good time to visit!
